Structural Repairs

Portsmouth

Overview

A client in Portsmouth reached out to Empires Building Contractors for help with their 150-year-old terraced home, which was showing severe signs of wear and tear. The property’s old render was cracking and falling off, and the bricks were coming loose, causing serious structural concerns. The client was not only looking to repair the damage but also wanted to gain some extra living space by extending a small section of the home and making better use of an underutilised storage area. Our task was to ensure the house was structurally sound while also enhancing the available space.

Steel Installation

The first step in these structural repairs in Portsmouth was to address the integrity of the building. We began by bolting steel supports together to stabilise the property. New bricks were laid to replace the ones that had come loose, and we built new support pillars to secure the steel beams. These measures were crucial in preventing further deterioration and ensuring the house was structurally safe for the long term. Additionally, we extended a small section of the property, carefully following the design requirements to maximise the usable space.

To further enhance the home’s layout, we knocked through into a storage area that was previously only used to store bikes. By integrating this space into the living area, we helped the client gain valuable extra room, which made a big difference in a terraced house where space is often limited. After completing the repairs and structural enhancements, the home was not only safer but also more functional and ready to meet the client’s needs. This project highlights our expertise in delivering effective structural repairs in Portsmouth, even in older properties that require careful attention and skilled craftsmanship.
